Release 3.8

The match engine, rebuilt. Stars play like stars and roles show in the box score, players run hot and cold, strategies play like plans with real counters, maps have a personality you can author, and upsets happen the way they do in real sport. Plus a career sidebar drawn for the game you are playing.

Careers have their own length

  • NEWEvery player now has a Longevity rating. It decides when he stops improving, when he starts to slip, how fast he slips, and the age he finally hangs it up. Nobody retires on the same birthday any more: some are done at 28, some are still starting at 34.
  • CHANGEDecline is personal. A durable veteran loses about a point a year and holds it, a fragile one falls off faster, and every year deeper into decline gets a little steeper. A great season holds most of the age off.
  • NEWYou can help. A Rest or Mentor split, a development coach and a training camp all add to a player's longevity over a season, so the veteran you look after really does last longer.
  • NEWPlayers who decide to retire announce it and play their contract out. You get the news in your inbox with the season he leaves, a Retiring chip sits on his card, and the club gets a season to plan the seat.
  • CHANGEA retiring player is not looking for an extension. He turns down normal offers outright. Only a crazy bag, far above his market, buys one more year, and never more than one.
  • CHANGENobody signs a player who has announced his retirement. Rival clubs do not chase him, your front office cannot open talks with him, and he retires from the club he played his last deal with.
  • NEWLongevity shows in the world editor next to Overall and Potential, so an author can build an iron man or a burnout. Leave it blank and the career rolls it.
  • NEWThe scouted profile now tells you the career shape too: when he declines, how fast, and the ages he is likely to retire between. In MyPlayer your own career length sits on the Growth panel.

Rosters decide, not dice

  • FIXThe best roster in the league could not reach a final while a weaker one won everything, and it was not variance. A plan was a power-up: the defensive plan won about seven Hardpoint maps in ten against passive or balanced on equal rosters, and the AI hands it to every two-anchor lineup, forever. Plans are now shapes with a matchup, never a strength: a push into an unset side wins the opening, a push into structure gives it back, and no plan collects an edge for doing nothing. Every plan pair on equal rosters now sits near a coin flip.
  • CHANGEA fast Hardpoint plan is set first on a new hill and leaves the tail of the old one behind. A structured Search plan trades better and concedes plants; a fast one wins openings. A clear caller sharpens how a plan lands, for better or worse, instead of adding raw strength.
  • CHANGEChemistry is worth the same in every mode and about half what it was. It used to enter six engines with six formulas and could erase the gap between the best and fourth-best roster on its own. Coaching can lean a skill about half as far as before.
  • CHANGEMeasured on a fresh six-season Black Ops 7 career: the top roster went from winning one event in five to nearly one in three, the best three rosters take three events in four, and a roster outside the top four wins about one in twelve.

Box scores that look like a real league

  • CHANGEA better team now shows it by winning maps, not by every player going three to one. A rating gap between two pro rosters used to land in full on every gunfight, so a club thirty points better posted a 2.5 team K/D and its opponents 0.4. The team part of a gap now counts at the weight the real league shows: an eight-point better side still wins about seven maps in ten, with a team K/D near 1.1.
  • CHANGESeason leaders sit where CDL leaders sit. On the Black Ops 7 world the top season K/D moved from 1.60 to 1.24, the top ten percent from 1.50 to 1.14, and the worst starters from 0.66 to 0.72, against a real season where the best posts about 1.15 and the worst about 0.7. Higher and lower still happen; they are outliers now, not the norm.
  • CHANGEIn respawn modes a better team now wins the objective more than the gunfight. Who takes a hill first, who breaks it and whether a carrier gets through now ride on map control as well as on the kills traded for it, so the best roster wins seven maps in ten with a team K/D near 1.05 instead of 1.2. Kills inside a side are credited by how much of the fighting a player does; the duel decides who dies.
  • CHANGEOne-life rounds keep their roles: the Entry still takes the most opening duels in Search and tactical play, and a star Sniper still posts a Valorant-class season. Only respawn fights, which are traded and team-shot, carry less of a single player's gap.
  • FIXControl in the instant sim was broken on its own: attackers won almost every round, the team that attacked first won almost every map, and kills ignored skill entirely. Fights now go through the shared resolver, the first attacker is a coin flip on the match seed, and capture pace no longer doubles on a rating gap.

Live viewer fairness

  • FIXThe live Hardpoint viewer no longer favours a side. Team one used to win about a third of even maps because the engine always moved and shot the other side second with fresher information, and one map's first hill sat closer to one spawn. Both sides now decide on the same frame, damage lands at the same time, and spawn sides flip with the match seed.
  • FIXStrategies in the live viewers are plans, not power-ups. An aggressive Hardpoint plan alone was worth about forty points of win rate in live, and the AI hands that plan to the strongest rosters, which is why two top clubs were slamming everyone. Live now uses the same plus or minus eight percent posture strength, with counters, as the instant sim.
  • CHANGEDeaths inside a team now spread more evenly than kills. The weakest player on a losing side still dies most, but no longer takes every death as well as the fewest kills.
  • FIXA better team now wins in the live viewer at the same rate it wins in the instant sim. Live fights compounded a whole-team rating edge about two and a half times harder, so a club four points better was taking three maps in four by fifty points. The team part of the gap is now weighted the way the instant sim weights it, while a star still carries inside his own side.
  • FIXA custom-map Capture the Flag, Uplink or Domination match watched live could stay level through twenty minutes of overtime and then fail with an error. It now plays one bounded overtime, next score wins, and a map still level after that is decided on match play: flag pulls or ball carries first, then flag returns, then the kill race, the same way Overload settles a draw.
  • CHANGEA new parity check keeps the live viewers and the instant sim agreeing on who wins, by how much, and by roster shape, so this class of drift cannot come back quietly.

The farewell

  • NEWWhen your MyPlayer hangs it up, the game writes the story. A first-person retirement letter built from what actually happened: how you came in, the club you called home, the breakout, the ring or the one that got away, the people who mattered, and why now.
  • NEWThen the recap: your overall season by season, every jersey on a timeline, the shelf, four numbers and your signature season.
  • NEWThen the verdict. A legend or a star gets the Hall of Fame plaque. A solid pro gets the respected send-off. A journeyman gets the honest ending, no fake ceremony. Teammates, rivals, your agent and the desk have their say.
  • CHANGEThe whole thing stays on the Hall of Fame tab afterwards, letter and all, so it is not a one-time screen.

Tier 2 plays by region

  • NEWTier 2 can now group by region, exactly like Tier 1. Each region runs its own groups, so a promotion and relegation world stays clean: clubs only meet their own region, and swaps stay inside it.
  • NEWThe world editor has the controls: turn Tier 2 groups on or off, keep each group inside one region, set groups per region, and give each region its own playoff bracket. The editor checks the layout against your Tier 2 clubs and says exactly what is off.
  • CHANGEThe tier you are not managing plays real region tables. Each region crowns its own leader, and each leader goes up into its own region. The ladder card shows every region's top three.
  • CHANGEManager and MyPlayer now draw groups through the same code, so a two-tier world plays its second tier the same way whichever seat you take. Pots, re-draws and random seeding apply in both.
  • CHANGEA new Tier 2 built for a regional Tier 1 starts regional, with one group per region and the clubs to fill it.

Stars are stars, roles mean something

  • CHANGERating decides fights now. A 99 against a 75 used to be close to a coin flip in any single duel, so nobody could carry a season; the gap is now worth what it should be, and a 99 in a league of 75s finishes around 1.5 K/D while an 85 is a clear starter rather than a superstar.
  • FIXEntries and snipers were the worst K/Ds in every tactical world because a "Slayer" was quietly played as an entry fragger, sent into the worst fights, and then handed none of the free kills. Fragger is its own job now: second man in, with the aim to finish what the entry opened.
  • FIXIGLs and anchors were the league's statistical superstars because nearly a third of all kills were free trade kills given to whoever had the most support. A trade is a fight now. The team-mate who re-peeks can lose it, and a star who wins the duel and the re-peek has a double, the way a real round looks.
  • CHANGEEvery role reads off the box score at equal rating: the entry takes the most opening duels and pays for it, the fragger out-frags the caller, the anchor dies least on a hill, the support roles trade and assist. In the real VCT world, duelists went from the worst K/D of any role to the second best, and seven of the top twelve.
  • NEWArchetype matchups. An entry running into a set anchor is the anchor's fight; the same entry catching a support player out of position is his. Small, and felt rather than shown, the way it should be.
  • FIXIn Control, the killer and the victim of every fight were picked at random, so a 99 and a 60 had the same K/D. Fixed.
  • FIXThe playstyle a world author picks for a role promised kill and death leans that no simulation ever applied. Those leans now live in the engine that plays the match, and the editor copy tells the truth.
  • CHANGEBattle royale squad fights are now a run of real duels between players rather than one roll per squad with the deaths dealt out afterwards, so the fragger on a squad is the one getting the knocks.

Hot and cold

  • NEWEvery player carries form, from cooked to on fire. Each series moves it, judged against the player's own baseline rather than the league's, so a big night is a big night for a 65 and a normal one for a 92. Three big series stack into a streak; one bad night does not erase them.
  • NEWForm plays. A player on fire plays every skill up to six percent above his card, a cooked one below it, in the quick sim and in the watched match alike. It is capped, it cools over idle weeks, and a team that never loses tops out at a class better rather than running away with the league.
  • NEWYou can see it. A Form panel on the player card shows the meter and what it is doing to him in plain words, the roster cards carry a chip when someone is off steady, and your inbox tells you when one of your own players catches fire, goes cold, or comes back from either.
  • NEWMyPlayer carries the same form, shown on your recent-form panel, moved by your own showings.

Strategies that play like plans

  • CHANGEA strategy used to be a hidden rating bonus, added nine different ways in nine different modes. It is now a way of playing: who pushes and who holds, how fast a side commits, how many fights it looks for, how it trades, how it plays the objective. The bonus that remains is small and behaviour is where the plan lives.
  • NEWCounters are real instead of looked up from a list. A push into a structured hold gives its edge back; a push into a passive side keeps it; two pushes trade a lot; two holds play long rounds. The strategy panel now describes each plan by what it does on the server.
  • FIXControl ignored your strategy entirely: it was checking for plan names that have never existed. Every plan now changes how Control is played.
  • FIXA football club's playbook, a basketball scheme, a car ball plan and a battle royale drop plan reached the quick sim but not the watched match, which played every plan as neutral. They reach both now.
  • FIXSports, car ball and battle royale fixtures were simulated with no strategy at all on the normal match path. They pick up the plan you set.

Maps with a personality

  • NEWThe map editor has a Map identity card: side lean (defence-sided to attack-sided), openness (tight to open), pace, size and gun lean. Select a bomb site to set how hard it is to hold; select a hill to set how exposed it is. Saved with the map, carried into every world and save.
  • NEWBoth simulators read it. A defence-sided map is felt on every attacking round, a fortress site is harder to take, an open map rewards aim over utility and trades less, and an open hill is worth less to hold. The quick Hardpoint sim receives the map for the first time.
  • CHANGEThe veto screen and the map records show what the author set instead of a built-in guess, and a map's size and pace finally reach its community page.

Upsets, runs and bad nights

  • NEWDay form. Nobody is the same player every map: each side and each player gets a swing for the night, so a team having a bad one can lose to a side it should beat, and the star who cannot hit anything tonight is a real thing. Drawn from the match itself, so a replay is the same night.
  • CHANGESharper ratings had made results too predictable while this was being built, and the tests caught it. Measured and pinned: a side eight overall better now wins about seven maps in ten and drops a best-of-three at least one time in six; a hot underdog against a cold favourite is a real threat; a hot 72 still loses to a rested 84.
  • CHANGEFootball and basketball get the same night-to-night swing, and the same bars: eight better wins most league games and still drops points, with draws where the sport allows them.

Live match viewer

  • FIXA watched match applied none of your coaching, break-week fatigue, injuries or big-stage traits, so the same fixture could play differently depending on whether you had time to watch. It applies every one of them now, plus form, and a 99 is a star in the viewer the way he is in the quick sim.
  • CHANGELive fights read the whole player rather than his aim and composure alone, entries carry the initiative and anchors the patience in the live tactical brain, and the live viewer plays a touch more defence-sided so it agrees with the quick sim on how a bomb-defusal map splits.
  • FIXAn Overload carrier could jitter in place for the last five minutes of a match with all eight players waiting on him. The device now resets when a carrier makes no ground, whatever the route thinks.
  • FIXBattle royale placement and the kill feed could disagree about who died last in a forced final fight. They agree now.

Sports and car ball

  • NEWThe playstyle a position carries now leans its job: a finisher takes the shots, a creator lays them on, a rim protector defends the paint. Car ball already did this; football and basketball catch up, in the watched match and the quick sim.

Your career, in the game's own chrome

  • NEWSignature chrome. The sidebar and top bar of a career are now drawn for the game you are playing: an ops board for a tactical shooter, a club hub for football, a front office for basketball, a drop line for battle royale, a pit wall for car ball, a select screen for a hero shooter. Same screens, same career; the frame around them belongs to the sport.
  • NEWSidebar or top bar: choose in Settings under Career chrome, along with Signature or Classic. The classic shell is still the one every game shares, and arcade shooters keep it as their own.
  • CHANGEClub colour is the one accent in every chrome and it is used with intent: the row you are on, a section label, one piece of rail art. Your typeface setting is respected everywhere; no chrome swaps the font.
  • CHANGEOn a phone the rail becomes a full drawer; on desktop it collapses to a strip. It remembers where you scrolled, keeps your badges, and Save & Exit is always where it was.
  • CHANGESignature chrome is a Pro perk. It changes how a career looks, never what it contains.
